Dispute Resolution

Dennis Fry graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1972. As a young engineer he was engaged in design and manufacturing in a traditional engineering environment with Stothert & Pitt Ltd in Bath, England. He also spent some time on various sites where petrochemical and process plants were under construction. His work included setting out foundations and inspecting reinforcement and piling activities, so he became familiar with the construction industry literally from the ground up!

In 1978 Dennis commenced a 2 year contract in the Zambian copper mining industry. As Works Engineer responsible for cobalt and lime production plants he gained broad ranging experience in metallurgical extraction, quarrying, minerals processing and related fields.

On his return to the UK in 1980 Dennis commenced work with Serck Baker (subsequently Natco UK), who designed and manufactured specialist equipment for the Oil & Gas industry. Initially as a Contracts Engineer and subsequently as a Project Manager Dennis was responsible for all aspects of design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of custom built systems and the management of contracts for the supply of such facilities. Systems were supplied for onshore plant, fixed platforms, jack-ups, TLP’s, semi-submersibles, barges and FPSO’s. Principal responsibilities included contractual compliance (technical and commercial), schedule control, budgetary control, and management of contract variations and disputes.

In 1990 Dennis became an independent consultant, his work falling into two distinct fields. For part of his time he provided Engineering Consultancy and Project Management services to corporate clients, primarily suppliers of specialist equipment and services to the Oil & Gas, Water & Sewage Treatment and related process and extractive industries. His work in this role included Project Management of the complete topsides process systems for a new-build FPSO, and the procurement and installation of pumping systems for two very large water treatment plants in China. The other aspect of his business was the provision of Dispute Resolution services, initially as a Technical Expert and subsequently also as Arbitrator, Mediator and adjudicator. This aspect of his work led to his studying for a Law Degree, in which he gained 1st class honours, and ultimately to his call to the Bar at Gray's Inn. Dennis now uses his unique combination of experience and qualifications to assist with the avoidance and resolution of disputes by all appropriate means and in all relevant fields.
